Welcome to this tutorial and lets get started. You are probably in the ‘content AD’ setting page now, so please continue to read on where this tutorial will show you step by step how to do the setting in just a few minutes. If you are not in the setting page then you will need to assign advertisement banner to an ad group first before you can start to use this feature so click on the red fruit icon tab as follow
at the sidebar of the admin area to open up the setting page first.
Version 2.1 (New Update)
Here is a quick note about the latest version which is version 2.1, this will be the last update for the year 2012 and after another minor update in early 2013 this plugin will be considered stable. If there is any update after version 2.2 then it will probably just dealing with tidying up the code a little bit which will happen not very often within the year 2013. Ok, so lets get into the new features in version 2.1 a little bit. The first feature I have introduced in this version is to disabled the click on your own ad when you are viewing your banner in the admin area to prevent you from the fraud click issue. The second feature is the one you are probably noticing now which is the top ad that previously stayed on the top paragraph in version 2.0 has now dislocated to the second paragraph. What happen here is really simple, because the first paragraph does not has enough words to wrap around the advertisement banner and thus when the banner shows up at the left side of the paragraph the words only can wrap half of the banner and not the entire banner. You probably has came across this situation so many times previously in other blog site where the banner looks so uneven because the words can only cover half of its height. The concept behinds the second feature in this new version is really simple, if you have written 133 words or more in the first paragraph then the banner will appear in the first paragraph or else it will search the second paragraph to look for the figure it is looking for, if it cannot find 133 words or more in the second paragraph then it will go to third paragraph and so on. If it still cannot find what it is looking for after the last paragraph then it got no choice but to remain at the first paragraph although the words is less than 133. This feature not only helps you to show better placement banner in your content area but also let you have a chance to display advertisement banner deep into your content instead of just at the top of the content area as many blog has today. The search will not continue to the next paragraph after the figure has been found so even the next paragraph has the same amount of words (133) or more the search will end in the paragraph where the figure was first encountered.
After the release of version 2.2 this plugin is now stabled and no more further update will be required after this. I will now move to a new project and leave you all to enjoy using this plugin!
All right, so much for version 2.1 now lets start the tutorial. First please look at the numbers in below image while you are reading the instructions:
Save an advertisement banners
- Insert the banner’s embed code which will appear on the content of the single post into box labeled 1.
- Give that banner a name in box labeled 2.
- Click on the save change button (3) below the form to save that particular banner code.
- Insert the new banner code into the embed area (1)
- Enter the name of the banner which you would like to replace its code with the new one into box labeled 2.
- Click on the save change button (3) to update the changes.
Delete advertisement banner
- Select the name of the banner (4) you have created previously.
- Click on the delete group button (5) and that banner will get deleted from the data base.
View an advertisement banner
- select the name of any advertisement banner (6) and that banner will appear on your setting panel.
Render the banner
You will see the meta box above appears on the right sidebar of your edit post or create new post page. Now it is very simple to show the banner on the post once you have completed the set up process mentioned in the first part of this tutorial.
All you have to do is to select from the meta box which banner and in which position in your post that you want that banner to appear on. You can either select a banner name from the top position where the banner will appear at the top of your post, the bottom position where banner will show up at the end of the content, the side position where that banner will appear on the sidebar of that post, or you can just select all three positions if you prefer to. After you have done with the selections, the banner(s) will appear on that post after you have published that post or updated it. If you do not select any banner from any of the position in the meta box then no banner will appear in the post.
You can always change the banner ad in your post by just select another banner in the smart ad tags meta box then updated your post accordingly later on.
Make sure you delete the old cache after the update if you are using any of the plugin to cache the posts on your blog or else the new update will only appear after the cache period is over, this tutorial is not mean to explain about the cache because I assume you already understood how the cache plugin works and know what to do to allow the new content update to appear on your blog.
Insert the sidebar widget
Next go to the widgets page in the blog admin area and grab the Smart Ad widget to the sidebar of that page. You do not need to set up anything here so just close the widget and that is it!
What are those benefits of using this feature?
As you can see, you can select any banner to appear in any position of a post which means each post in your blog will have different banner appears on it instead of the same banner appears in the same position of every post (or the sidebar of every posts if you use the text widget which comes with wordpress cms).
The main strength of this feature is to help you to place the right advertisement on a niche post and thus will definitely increase sales and profit.
Little bit about the size of the banner you should use in this plugin
You can see how the real banners appear in this post where I have set all three banners to appear in all three positions, top, bottom and the sidebar of this single post.
The top banner will float left, the bottom banner will stay at the bottom center of the content and the last banner appears on the sidebar of the post. Make sure you always use either the 300 x 300 banner or the square banner on the content of the post which this plugin design ideology is based upon. You can use wider banner if you want to on the top of the post but it is not advisable to do so because the conversion rate for wider banner is not that high as compared to the 300 x 300 banner.
As for the bottom banner always use the square type banner, 300x 300 or 250 x 250 or 350 x 350 as you wish but never use the 750 x 60 or the type of banner which is similar to that unless your content has a very wide area because the bottom banner will always appear on the bottom center of the post and if you use the wider banner then part of the banner might get overflowed if you use the wordpress theme that does not know how to handle the overflow situation correctly. So choose a good wordpress theme for your blog is always the number one priority before you start a new wordpress blog.
Alright, that is it for now and hope you do enjoy using this plugin. Please do consider to subscribe to this blog and receive the latest news about this plugin and other great blog’s content from time to time
